TWELVE POWERS INFORMATION
UNDERSTANDING
POWER DISCIPLE COLOR LOCATION MONTH
Understanding Thomas Gold Behind right eye May
Each of the Twelve Powers is coordinated with a month, color, disciple and the
body location, as listed above. When focusing on the Power of Understanding above the
right eye, visualize the color gold, call upon the Disciple Thomas for guidance and
support, and repeat the following affirmations:
AFFIRMATION:
"I KNOW WHO I AM; I AM GOD EXPRESSING THROUGH
ME"
"I LISTEN, I HEAR I UNDERSTAND, I FOLLOW" "I LOOK, I SEE, I PERCEIVE, I PREPARE, I
DO"
SUBJECTS:
Understanding: Know thyself, "Who am I?, I AM, Identity, Mental Telepathy, Intuiton,
Spiritual Powers, Perception, Knowledge, Awareness, Realizations, Life is
Consciousness
The above subjects can become issues for healing during this course whether or
not you're doing it in May. The monthly associations are especially helpful for further
attuning to the energies. For instance, understanding, and knowing yourself are
meaningful in May.
BODY ASSOCIATIONS;
Eyes (inner vision) ears (inner knowing), (see Will: allowing willfulness, wanting own way
to control)
Working with this Understanding Power Center can heal many mental and
physical conditions. Read Catherine Ponder's book, Healing Secret of the Ages" for
further explanation.
IN-DEPTH DISCUSSION OF UNDERSTANDING SELF AND OTHERS IN "SAYING YES
TO MYSELF" BY JOYANNA FREELAND (See Book List).
MANDALA FOR UNDERSTANDING
Color the Mandala for Understanding, using gold or golden yellow as the
predominant color, and other colors as you feel guided (any color is okay; there's no
right or wrong). If you don't have a gold color you can use orange and color over it with
yellow. Whatever feels right to you is the way to do it.
Since Understanding must guide Will, you can use gold for the greater or larger
areas of the cross and gray or silver (The color for Will), for the smaller areas."
It's importait to color the mandala. Do not avoid it as -kid "stuff." That's exactly
the reason it's beneficial. It will work when nothing else will. The subconscious loves
mandalas and becomes very cooperative, so if you have problems starting or
completing the processes or answering the questions, you can color a mandala. You
can feel the child at play as you color. Let go and enjoy!
This is also an excellent time to communicate or listen to your conscious,
However, do not limit yourself by allowing your intellect, logic and reason to interfere. If
you are having misunderstandings with anyone, you can use affirmations as you color,
such as, "There is nothing between us but love and understanding."
The superconscious also finds the mandala a helpful means of communication. Bring
anything that has to do with Understanding -God, self, relationships, jobs, problems -into
your consciousness as you color. Ask your Superconscious mind to assist or give
answers. Ask your intuitive guidance to reveal to you what's appropriate pertaining to
understanding, intuition, intellect, your conscious, subconscious, superconscious;
whatever things came up for you during the burning bush process (or you can do this
process while coloring).

1. How important is it to you to "Understand" something? Do you feel this to be an activity of the

intellect?
2. How do you perceive "intuition-?
3. Keep track of the "happenings" that could be termed "intuitive." Are you "giving credit where credit is due" for these happenings?
4. Are you "listening, hearing, understanding and following" your "inner guidance"? Are you aware of the difference?
5. In what ways are you refusing to "listen, to hear, to understand, to follow"? Why?
What are you afraid of?

5. What do you need to do to change your consciousness so you will enjoy the life you would like to create?
FURTHER SEMINAR SUGGESTIONS:
Prepare a poster using magazines and newspapers relating to "Understanding" subjects on gold poster-board or colors.
You can place on your poster: A small mirror, pictures that suggest
understanding between self and/or others and/or God, pictures of children with parents, a picture of the "Burning Bush," pictures of getting acquainted; or the poem "I Am There" or "Please Hear What I'm Not Saying." As you personalize your own poster you'll feel greater depths of Understanding.
Write down your feelings and experiences about your Understanding poster.
Color your understanding mandala and write down your experience.
Listen to songs about subjects discussed in Understanding
Read Bible passages referring to these subjects.
Read magazine articles and books about these subjects.
MIRROR PROCESS
This next process is not designed to be comfortable. In fact, if you're not
uncomfortable, both physically and emotionally, you're not doing it right. The purpose of
this process is to get in touch with and release hidden feelings from childhood that stand
in the way of your understanding and intuitive guidance.
Imagine that you're standing in front of a full-length mirror in a dimly lit room so
you can barely see yourself. If you have a real mirror, cover it with window spray which
you can later wipe off.
Now speak the following words and allow them to permeate your consciousness,
"When I was a child I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child. When
I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now I see in a mirror dimly, but then face
to face. Now I know in part, then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully
understood."
Still your conscious, reasoning mind and do not try to figure out the meaning of
those words, even if they are familiar and you think you know exactly what they mean.
Repeat them several times.
As you are looking in the mirror, visualize a golden beam of Light (Understanding
Energy) centering above your right forehead. Take a deep breath and inhale so you
internalize the golden Light. Now begin gently swirling the golden Energy through your
head and affirm, "I am Understanding." Continue doing this slowly until the golden Light
has swirled throughout your entire body and you are experiencing yourself as a radiating
center of golden Energy. You are aware of its texture, smell, and taste so it's very real
for you and you can tune in, or recreate it anytime by simply affirming, "I am
Understanding."
As this process continues, see your clear and radiant reflection in the mirror as
the entire room glows from your Light. (Wipe off your window spray to symbolize this
clarification).
Now to your clear image in the mirror repeat the words, "When I was a child I
spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child. When I became a man, I
gave up childish ways. For now I see in part, then I shall understand fully, even as I have
been fully understood." Ask your intuitive guidance to reveal their meaning while you look
into the mirror.
Focus your attention on your reflection. Notice every detail of your entire
body: how you hold yourself, your posture and body language. What is it telling you?
Does it project your desired image? What about your hair? Clothes? Don't be critical, but
simply observant. As you're looking at your radiant, glowing self, realize no one else can
qualify for the job of being you. There is only one you. So look and see if you are fulfilling
the job as capably as you wish it filled. Just be there with you. Affirm "Getting to know
you, getting to know all about YOU." (If you have this song, play it now)
Continue with this process until you feel ready to move on. Then read over and
over the following poem and allow your emotions to surface and burst forth if there are
tears. It may take some time, and you may wish to sit down if you're still standing.
CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE
If a child lives with criticism,
He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule,
He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame,
He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance,
He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement,
He learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise,
He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness,
He learns justice.
If a child lives with security,
He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval,
He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
He learns to find love in the world.
When you're ready, stand and again look in the mirror. Really see yourself, and
then say, "This is me --------- (say your name). I love myself."
As you're looking in the mirror, ask your inner child to become visible. See her (or
him), your very own self as a little child, reflecting back. And speak to your child. Ask for
the name it likes to be called. Now just talk to her (or him) in the mirror. Ask if there's
anything you can do to help, or that she/he wants.
Take as long as you wish with this process. When you are complete, write down
your experience, and your feelings. This is a powerful, deep process and can be used
often to contact your inner child, and to get deeper in touch with yourself. Also for
intensifying the Understanding energies.
Affirm "I am willing to see clearly and to understand what God reveals to/through
me." As you're writing ask yourself, "Have I truly given up childish ways, or am I bringing
those things from my childhood into my present life? Am I bringing those resentments,
hurts, fears, accusations, and childish feelings into my life today? Don't let your
conscious mind answer these questions, but rather allow your inner child, subconscious,
and Superconscious to assist with the answers.
Stay with your writing until everything is clear. Then return to the mirror, and if it's
still blurry begin swirling the Golden Energy as a wiping cloth and remove any remaining
covering. Ask if there's anything else you need to understand at this time.
(You may continue with this process, or you may stop here. Before continuing
another time you would need to repeat the opening steps of recreating the golden Light.
And then continue).
When the Mirror is clear and radiant, become aware of the golden Energy that
has been gently swirling through your body during this process. Feel its intensity and
power. As you're looking in the mirror, feel the radiation become as the rays of the sun's
brilliance: so intense and powerful that you must close your eyes.
BURNING BUSH PROCESS
(As preparation for this process read the Bible story of the Burning Bush in
Exodus 3.)
Now, imagine yourself as the brilliance and radiance of the Burning Bush, which
symbolically represents Intuitive Understanding or the "Light within." Your Light is not
coming from without, but from within.
The experience of Moses before the Burning Bush is an experience in Cosmic
Consciousness -- a full realization of the Divine Presence. This happens when we are in
a high place, or an exalted state of consciousness. Now, as the Light revealed to Moses,
so let it reveal to you your true identity. First ask the Light, "Who are You?" Let the Light
of Intuitive Understanding reveal the answer, Then allow the answer to be revealed as you ask, "Who am I?"
Continue asking the Light any questions you wish. Be willing to let the answers
be revealed through your Intuitive Understanding. Affirm "I listen, I hear, I understand, I
follow."
When you are ready, look at yourself again in the full Light of Understanding.
Allow about one minute to see yourself reflected in the radiant mirror as who you really
are -- your true identity revealed by the Light Within.
Symbolically the statement spoken by God to Moses, "Put off your shoes from
your feet," means to uncover your Understanding; be willing to experience and
understand the Truth and guidance as revealed through (our Intuitive Understanding. It
may not be what you want to hear, or the way you think it ought to be, but "listen, hear,
understand, and follow."
God's words to Moses, "For the place on which you are standing is holy ground,"
spoken during the Burning Bush scene in the Bible, leaves no doubt. He did not say, if
you go to the nearest temple, church, or synagogue. He did not say, it's the Burning
Bush itself. He said, "The place right where you are now is the place that's holy. If you'll
simply be open and receptive to that inner guidance then you don't have to search for
the literal Burning Bush on Mt. Horeb in the Holyland. The answer is within you; from your
Inner Light of Intuitive Understanding.
We read in this Bible story that Moses, by now in his eighties, had learned
humility during his exile sojourn in the desert. In his younger years he would have ridden
off in a cloud of dust, but now he's more cautious as he asks, "If I come to the people of
Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me,
'what is your name?' What shall I say to them?"
A fair question. Can you just imagine Moses at the age of eighty-something
walking up to Pharaoh and saying, "Oh excuse me, but God told me that you are to
release the six-hundred-thousand men, plus women, children, and animals to me to take
them back to Canaan"? Hardly. As the story goes it took ten terrible plagues to finally
convince Pharaoh, and even then he had a change of heart and took out after them until
the Red Sea episode changed his plans. (See Journey to Inner Freedom, The Plagues for this horrific story that we all must go through on our inner journey).
Moses listened attentively as God, through the Burning Bush (Intuitive
Understanding) said to him, "I AM THAT I AM." And He said, "Say this to the people of
Israel, I AM has sent me to you ...this is my name forever, and thus I am to be
remembered throughout all generations."
This name I AM, had been a well-known secret word for power to the Israelites,
and was not unfamiliar. As a matter of fact, the words appear on the walls of the Egyptian
temples.
As the biblical story unfolds, we read that Moses had several considerations about this
"Word of God," telling him to lead this mass Exodus. But God assured him as He
assures us, "I will be with you, I will guide you, I will be with your mouth and teach you
what you shall speak."
Moses finally understood and returned to Egypt to fulfill God's commandment, and he released the Israelites (Journey to Inner Freedom, tells the metaphysical symbology of this journey in our daily lives).
So God speaks to us through our Intuitive Guidance and guides us along our own
Journey to Inner Freedom, when we remove the roadblocks and bypass the detours of
discovering and accepting our wonderful God-selves.
LIFE IS CONSCIOUSNESS
"Ask anything in my name and it shall be given unto you." What does it mean to "Ask in
the name of Jesus"? Is it His name that brings the magical results? There are those who
believe just saying His name is all that's necessary, but I think we must ask "according
to the consciousness" of Jesus. In other words we must not only have faith and believe,
but we must purify ourselves as He did to achieve the desired results. Or we must align
ourselves "in faith, without doubt," as the Bible says, then speaking His name will bring
answered prayers.
You may ask, "What does this have to do with consciousness? Everything!
Jesus lived in the consciousness of prayer. When we realize that our life is our prayer, we
can readily see that our consciousness means our thinking, feeling, believing, and our
experiences. In other words, "who we are."
We do create our universe and our reality "according to our consciousness."
How could it be otherwise? God created his universe "according to His Consciousness."
What then does that tell us about our universe?
Emmet Fox, a renowned metaphysical author wrote a pamphlet, "Life Is
Consciousness," in which he states that's the answer to all our problems and triumphs.
He says people try to change outer conditions without changing their consciousness,
and it doesn't work. When we fully understand this enormous Truth, and then decide
what to do with this key to life's doors, we'll have the secret of the universe.
The Dictionary says consciousness is "The state of being conscious. The
aggregate of the conscious states in an individual or a group of persons." Conscious
means "mentally aware of one's inner thoughts and feelings, and also of things external
to oneself." Therefore we can assume consciousness includes our thinking, feeling, and
believing. In other words it's who we are at this present time, in our current awareness
and understanding, which encompasses all we've been and experienced until now.
I often use the term "according to your consciousness," which means according to your
present understanding and ability to create your reality. We do create our reality, so if we
want to be healthy, we must develop a health consciousness; prosperity requires a
prosperity consciousness, and harmonious relationships come from a consciousness of
harmony.
Many who read or hear these words say, "Darn! Isn't there an easier way? I
don't want to change all my negative habits and attitudes. It's too hard. Forget it." Right.
That's why most people don't make the necessary changes for a different lifestyle. It's
too much work. So, I'll give you the information, but the rest is up to you. At least you'll
no longer have the excuse of not knowing. There are some who would rather not have
that enlightenment ... they prefer the excuse of not knowing.
But for those who want to change, the next question is "How do I start?" You've
already started. If you do the Home Study Activities you'll move way ahead, and then
apply these teachings in your daily life. I don't know any quick-fix. I've incorporated
everything I've gleaned through my years of pursuing this quest, and I do know these
teachings work. But, of course these things are according to my consciousness. You'll
want to incorporate what appeals to you into your own reality as you keep on with your
Transformation Process.
